Animal Shelter/Dog License Information
East County Animal Shelter
4595 Gleason Drive
Dublin, CA 94568
(925) 803-7040 (call after 11:30 a.m.)

The City of Dublin contracts with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office for Animal Control Services provided within the City's boundaries. This includes: patrol, enforcement of animal related laws and ordinances, investigation of dog bites and attacks, collection of stray domestic animals, dog licensing and shelter services. Animal Control Officers are also available to assist with other animal or reptile services not provided by Vector Control or Fish and Game.  If you have questions regarding any of these activities, please call the East County Animal Shelter at (925) 803-7040. The City has direct responsibility for the abatement of any nuisance caused by vicious dogs. If you have reason to believe that an animal poses an immediate risk to persons or property, please contact Animal Control Dispatch at (510) 667-7763 or the animal shelter at (925) 803-7040 after 11:30 a.m.

Dog Licensing

The Dublin Municipal Code requires all dogs within the City of Dublin to be licensed. You can stop by or call the East County Animal Shelter for an application to be mailed to you. Mail the completed application, along with the appropriate fee and a copy of the dog's rabies certificate directly to the animal shelter (address on application). Animal Control will mail the tags to you. You can also go directly to the East County Animal Shelter at 4595 Gleason Drive and obtain the tags immediately.

Vicious Dogs

When there is evidence that a dog has displayed vicious behavior, such as biting or destroying property, the City's Hearing Officer is empowered to hold a hearing to evaluate the evidence and to prescribe corrective action. Oral and documentary evidence may be taken from any interested person and will be considered in determining whether the dog is vicious. Any dog found to be vicious is then deemed to be a public nuisance. The City's Hearing Officer may order a vicious dog to be humanely destroyed, removed from the area, or the nuisance otherwise abated by fencing, muzzling, or leashing.

Animal Restrictions

The Dublin Municipal Code imposes some limitations on the number and types of animals that may be kept within City boundaries. Generally, residential lots may have no more than two dogs and two cats without an Animal Fancier's Permit. The keeping of livestock is prohibited. Also, certain exotic pets are prohibited. If you are unsure whether a certain type of pet is permitted within City boundaries, please call the City's Code Enforcement Officer at (925) 833-6610.
